The Paradise of King Bali

from $7.20

King Bali (or Maveli/Mahabali) was a fabled Asura (“old lord”) ruler of the masses in what is now South India. Unjustly killed/exiled into the netherworld by the trickery of the Vedic god Indra, Bali's followers annually celebrate his symbolic, prophesied return to the world to usher a golden age, providing equality to all.

Here, King Bali rejoices in the success and happiness of the Dalit-Bahujan-Adivasi peoples, regardless of gender, occupation, disability status, sexuality, or religious affiliation. Like the idea of Begumpura (“World Without Suffering”) among those of the Ravidassia faith, Bali's followers conceive of a casteless, just future as Balipura or Mavelinadu.
